The Board of Directors

Because it would be impractical to call a Stockholder's meeting for all the decisions that must be made regarding the operation of Rochdale Village, Inc., a Board of Directors is elected. The Cooperators elect 15 members and one appointed Representative by the NY State Division of Housing and Community Renewal (DHCR).

With the exception of The DHCR representative, all serve three-year terms, which are staggered. Each year a third of the Board (5) seats are up for re-election. All stockholders are eligible to run for the Board. However, you must be up-to date in your carrying charges.

The Board selects the Management Company and Legal Counsel. They are also responsible for setting Policy and Procedures and voting on all contracts which are then forwarded to DHCR for final approval.

Board Members serve without compensation, they are all volunteers and do not have regular office hours. However, there is a Board Office that is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. The Board of Directors meets the fourth Monday of each month at 7:30 P.M. in rooms 12/13 in the Rochdale Village Community Center. The Board has several Committees; Budget & Finance, Commercial Service, Community Center, Community Relations, Maintenance, Public Safety, Senior Citizen and Youth Planning. These committees are usually chaired by members of the Board and are made up of Cooperators. All Cooperators are encouraged to attend Board meetings and join committees. Volunteerism is an important part of cooperative living. Meeting notices are posted on the bulletin boards opposite the elevators in each building.

Board of Directors and Community information is published in THE ROCHDALE VILLAGE BULLETIN monthly newspaper and also on the Weekly Information Sheet delivered to each Cooperators door.
